A Chocolate-Colored Soulmate – The Story of Flo
There has always been a dog in my house—I don’t know how to live without fur in my coffee. Breed never mattered. What captured my heart was her story and those soulful eyes. We always had mixed-breed dogs; never purebreds. We believed that purebred dogs always find homes, while mutts often struggle.
After my 16-year-old dog passed away, the house felt painfully empty—until the day I saw Flo among her eight siblings.
Flo was adopted from the OTOZ Animals Shelter in Dąbrówka, near Wejherowo. I found out about the puppies on Facebook.
I chose adoption because of my beliefs, the charm of my dog, and simply the kindness in my heart. I saw her picture online in the middle of the night—I couldn’t sleep. The next morning, the decision was made. I drove to the shelter, entered the puppy kennel… and she was the first one to run up to me. She sat in front of me and looked up—and we both knew. She slept peacefully in my arms on the way home.
I knew exactly which puppy I was going for. The adoption went quickly and smoothly—no questions asked—because the shelter staff already knew me. They regularly brought animals to the rehabilitation center where I work.
Flo was a tiny 5-week-old fluff ball, just separated from her mother and siblings, so I dedicated as much time as I could to her. We were meant to be. The adjustment period went incredibly smoothly. I bottle-fed her with goat milk, and she learned to go potty outside in no time. Everyone instantly fell in love with her. She just knew—right from the beginning—that she was home.
What got me first were her sad blue eyes, which later turned green. I love her simply because she is—but of course, I have favorite traits. She’s super intelligent, learns fast, very polite, cheerful, and always lifts my mood. And her looks? I love chocolate, and since she’s chocolate-colored and a dog—I love her twice as much!
We even have an Instagram page: @Florka_psinfluencerka.
Would I adopt again? Absolutely! I dream of adopting a senior dog—sick, with little chance of finding a home—so I can give them warmth and love in their final months.
They say, “Adopting one dog won’t change the whole world, but for that one dog, the whole world will change.” I couldn’t agree more.
You’re saving a life. You’re gaining a best friend. And no one will ever love you as deeply as a dog does.
