Noemi & Ginger – The German Shepherd Who Taught Us What Home Really Means
My husband and I had wanted to adopt a dog for a long time.
We both love animals. But we were always… somewhere.
Three months in Boston. Almost a year in New York. Then Israel.
And then, finally – we moved to Poland.
That’s when life burst into color.
Bright, rainbow-colored joy.
Because that’s when we adopted our beautiful girl – Ginger.
A German Shepherd. Big in size, but fragile in spirit. She was terrified of everything.
Why adopt?
People often tell me,
“I’d love to adopt a shelter dog, but I’m away from home all day. I leave at 6 a.m., get back late.”
And sure, it might be 12 hours.
But do you really think that a dog is happier waiting in a shelter?
They won’t mind waiting for you at home – not if they know you’ll come back.
Because you become their everything.
Their person.
And that’s enough.
Adopted dogs are the happiest creatures on Earth.
They’re grateful beyond words – and they show it in every wag, every nuzzle, every look.
I truly recommend it to everyone.
The adoption itself? It was simple.
A form, a vet booklet… and that was it.
The hardest part? Choosing.
Because how do you not take all of them?
Ginger, at first, was scared of everything.
She wouldn’t leave her bed. Tail tucked. Afraid of the big, unknown world.
But little by little, things changed.
After two weeks, she was walking around the house.
Soon after, she started to venture farther on walks.
And one day, about a month in, I let her off-leash – far from the city.
She ran. Back and forth. Back again.
But never far.
She always made sure she could see me.
And she still does.
Today, Ginger sees us as her heroes.
Her guides.
Her pack.
Whether we go to a new city or just visit our family in the countryside – she never leaves our side.
Where Ginger is… that’s where we are.
She’s now a forever part of our lives.
I wouldn’t change a thing.
Not one second.
If I could go back, I’d adopt her all over again.
(And who knows – maybe I’ll adopt another someday…)
Recently, we welcomed another dog into our home – a stray from Israel, where my husband is from.
She flew all the way to Poland to be with us.
Now we have two wonderful dogs.
And life with them?
Never boring.
Always full of love.
