Karolina & Sara – From Foster to Forever
Sara was born in the dead of winter, along with her seven siblings, at a construction site.
The man building the house had just arrived in Poland for a two-month stay, and he was the one who found them.
He began feeding the puppies, but as his departure drew near, he started searching for help.
After many failed attempts, he finally found it – at Azyl Pod Psim Aniołem (Under the Dog Angel Shelter).
At that time, I had decided we would foster a dog.
Growing up, I’d had animals at home ever since I turned eight.
But in 2012, my partner and I weren’t sure if we were ready to be long-term pet parents in our own place.
I went to the shelter hoping to take home one little pup temporarily.
From the photos, I was drawn to one of the puppies – Sara’s sister.
But when I stood in front of their enclosure, I knew right away it had to be her.
Why?
Because she was the only puppy who didn’t rush to the bars to greet me.
She sat on the doghouse, watching me quietly.
Thoughtful. Observant.
I brought her home with the intention of finding her a forever family.
But just two days later, I knew:
I couldn’t let her go.
She’s been with us ever since – since June 30, 2012.
Sara is the most wonderful, loyal friend I’ve ever had.
Even though we had to go through lots of socialization classes –
because she was a very anxious little pup –
it was all so worth it.
Now, she’s healthy, balanced, and the most lovable grown-up dog.
Her adoption was smooth and easy – and I recommend it to anyone who truly wants to help a homeless dog and offer them a loving home.
We love her simply because she exists.
Because she loves us back.
Would we adopt again?
Without hesitation.
Shelter dogs are the most wonderful, intelligent animals.
They give you their whole heart.
