Basia & Okrusia – The Teeny-Tiny Rescue Who Healed Our Hearts
Our love story began in January 2014.
On Facebook, of all places.
We saw her – a tiny, broken little soul, no more than 6–8 weeks old, terrified of her own shadow.
And we knew.
We were going to fight for her.
She was barely breathing when she was rescued from a backyard breeder by a foster home supported by Beagle w Potrzebie (Beagle in Need). From the very beginning, they fought to keep her alive.
She was so incredibly small that her foster family gave her the name Okrusia, which in Polish means Tiny Crumb.
At the time, we already had a 9-month-old beagle girl from a breeder – Szelka.
As a family, we decided: if one dog could have a loving home, then why not two?
There were plenty of hands for cuddling, and an extra bowl of food would always be found.
So we sent in our adoption application.
I remember the day like it was yesterday – March 9, 2014.
Patrycja, Okrusia’s foster mom, called and told us…
Okrusia was ours.
Tears streamed down my face.
The joy? Beyond words.

We love her because she brings pure joy to our lives.
Rain or shine, day or night – she’s always ready for cuddles.
Always smiling. Always loving.
She loves everyone. She is pure happiness wrapped in fur.
We never imagined an adopted dog could bring us this much joy.
We were scared at first – unsure if we could handle it, if she could handle it.
But now, more than two years later, we know:
It was worth it. So worth it.
We passed the test.
Okrusia and Szelka bring us endless joy and unforgettable moments.
They’re our anti-depressants.
Our stress relief.
Our whole hearts.
If I ever had to make the decision again – to adopt or not?
It’s a yes. Always.
Okrusia and Szelka even have their own fun Facebook page – and you’re more than welcome to visit.
Because sometimes, the tiniest dogs leave the biggest prints on your life.
